Our brief was to use projection, motion graphics and animation to create content for Beatbox, a new nightly show at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.
The concept was for content to be projected onto a scrim-lined rectangular box installation which was 20 meters long, 6 meters high and 6 meters deep. The family friendly show was scheduled to play twice nightly – at 7.30 and 8.30, to take advantage of Dreamworld’s extended summer trading hours. Artistic Director, Ignatius Jones supplied us with a music selection as a guide for the creative content. His vision was to create a spectacle that was part music festival, part explosive light show.
Working together with JB World Events, the music track was broken down into sections to ascertain what graphic elements would suit the specific songs featured in each section.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
The biggest challenge on this project was time. Creating 20 minutes of original content in the alotted time frame was extremely tight. Making sure the right team were working on the job was the only way this was going to be achieved. Our technical and motion graphics teams worked closely together to ensure a successful result.
The Beatbox installation launched with great success. Big crowds have been attending each night for the two 20 minute shows.
